Like many small creative ventures, my Depop shop, @shopvenusrising, was born during the pandemic. With so much uncertainty in the air, I wanted something grounding, flexible, and fun, something I could build from home. I started by listing a few pieces of jewelry, and quickly found a passion for.

A Creative Outlet from Home

I’ve always loved jewelry, how it can completely elevate an outfit, reflect personality, or even just add a little sparkle to your day. During lockdown, I started collecting, styling, and curating pieces I thought others would love too. Rings, chain necklaces, charms, minimalist studs, each item was chosen because it had something unique to offer.

Depop was the perfect platform. I could ship everything myself, safely, from home. I didn’t need a storefront, fancy equipment, or a huge budget, just creativity, consistency, and a bit of hustle.

What I Sell

At shopvenusrising, the focus is mostly on jewelry. I sell a mix of everything: rings, chain necklaces, dainty earrings, and statement pieces.

Some items are vintage-inspired, others are more trendy and modern. I like to keep the shop versatile, but cohesive—something that feels curated without being cookie-cutter. Jewelry is so personal, and my goal is always to help buyers find that “this is so me” piece.

Building a Brand

Even though my shop is small, I think of it as a brand. From the moment someone clicks on a listing to the second they open their package, I want the experience to feel thoughtful and intentional.

That starts with fun, simple photography, usually natural light, colorful backgrounds, and close-ups that show the detail of each piece. I write clear, friendly captions that tell you exactly what you're getting, including size info, material notes, and styling ideas.

I also package every order with care, usually in soft pouches or tissue, and always with a thank-you note or a little extra. It’s those small touches that turn a simple purchase into a more personal connection.

Connecting with Buyers

One of the most rewarding parts of running this shop is interacting with buyers. I love answering questions about ring sizing, styling tips, or helping people pick out gifts. Depop makes it easy to connect casually through DMs, and I try to always respond quickly and warmly.

Some of my favorite moments have been when buyers message me after receiving their jewelry to say how much they love it—or when someone comes back for a second (or third!) order. That kind of loyalty means everything, especially as a small seller.

Lessons I’ve Learned

Running shopvenusrising has taught me a lot, not just about selling online, but about branding, communication, and creative problem-solving. Here are a few takeaways:

  • Shipping from home is a game-changer: It’s convenient, fast, and makes the whole business model possible, even during a lockdown.

  • Details matter: The right lighting, the right words, the right packaging—it all adds up to a polished experience.

  • Consistency builds trust: Regularly posting new items, maintaining your shop’s vibe, and delivering great service helps build credibility.

  • Social selling works: Depop isn’t just a marketplace; it’s a community. Engage with buyers, be friendly, and people will come back.

  • You don’t need a huge inventory: Curating a small collection that feels special is better than having endless options with no focus.

What’s Next

Even though the shop started as a side hustle, I’ve been thinking more seriously about its future. I’d love to do small capsule drop, maybe themed around seasons, moods, or colors. I’ve also been experimenting with more handmade pieces and sourcing from independent suppliers.

Whatever direction I go, one thing will stay the same: Venus Rising will always be about intentional, affordable jewelry that makes people feel a little more themselves.

If you’re curious to check out what’s in the shop, you can visit @shopvenusrising on Depop. Whether you’re looking for your next everyday ring or a statement necklace that turns heads, I hope you’ll find something that feels just right.

Thanks for supporting small sellers, you make it all possible.
